Heather Cusack

Heather, a resident of Southold, has been an environmental advocate for 30 years. A graduate from Connecticut College in New London with a major in Human Ecology, she studied with the wetlands ecologist William Niering.

Her grandparents lived in Cutchogue and she grew up living there summers and moved to the
North Fork yearround after college in 1984. She has worked in environmental education and protection in the schools and for the Town government. Mother of two sons, she is currently working in her organic garden and teaching environmental education.



Izzy Doroski

Isidore Doroski graduated the State University of New York College at Cortland in 1977 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology. He began his career as a research scientist in neurophysiology, and has worked as a wastewater treatment plant operator. He now works for the Suffolk County Department of Health Services in Environmental Engineering and Pollution Control.

His career has involved complex inspections of facilities ranging from nuclear reactors and chemical companies to the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Facility. He now heads the inspection program of wastewater treatment plants in Suffolk County. He has also worked with the Suffolk County District Attorney Environmental Crime Unit and appeared in many trials as an expert witness.

Mr. Doroski’s main additional interest since the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo is the field of energy. He installed the first solar system (a hot water system) at his home in 1981. Since then he has installed seven solar energy systems at his home which provide most of his home’s electricity. Mr. Doroski has been the chair of the Riverhead Town Energy Advisory Committee since October of 2006 and has lectured on the subject of Peak Oil throughout Suffolk County.
